The Rajab Istighfar

The following is a compilation of istighfar, known as Istighfar Rajab, compiled by Habib Hasan, the son of Imam Abdullah bin Alawi al-Haddad. It is traditionally recited every night in the month of Rajab.

﷽

الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّم

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah Lord of the Worlds. O Allah bestow prayers and peace upon our Master Muhammad and upon his Family and Companions.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰه (×3)
وَأَتُوبُ إِلَى اللّٰهِ
مِنْ جَمِيعِ مَايَكْرَهُ اللّٰهُ
قَوْلًا وَفِعْلًا وَخَاطِرًا وَبَاطِنًا وَظَاهِرًا

I seek the forgiveness of Allah (3 times). I seek the forgiveness of Allah for every word, act and thought and every inward and outward action of mine which Allah dislikes.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ اْلعَظِيمَ
الَّذِي لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا
هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, the Most Great. There is no deity but Him; the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا قَدَّمْتُ
وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ
وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ
وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي

أَنْتَ الْـمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ
وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِير

O Allah forgive me for what I have done previously, what I will do, what I have done in secret and in private, for my excesses and for that about which You have more knowledge than I.

You are the One who puts people ahead and puts people behind and You have power over all things.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
مِنْ جَمِيعِ الذُّنُوبِ وَالْآثَامِ

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ لِذُنُوبِي كُلِّهَا سِرِّهَا
وَجَهْرِهَا وَصَغِيرِهَا وَكَبِيرِهَا
وَقَديـمِهَا وَجَدِيدِهَا وَأَوَّلِـهَا
وَآخِرِهَا وَظَاهِرِهَا وَبَاطِنِهَا وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty and Honour, for all my sins and wrongdoings.

I seek the forgiveness of Allah for every one of my sins: those committed in private, those committed in public, the small and the large, those committed previously and those committed recently, the first and the last of them, outward and inward sins, and I repent to Him.

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ
تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ عُدْتُ فِيهِ

O Allah I seek Your forgiveness for any sin from which I have repented and then committed again.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا أَرَدْتُ بِهِ وَجْهَكَ
اْلكَرِيمَ فَخَالَطَهُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ فِيهِ رِضًا

I seek Your forgiveness for any action which I performed initially for Your noble countenance and then something else which is displeasing to You detracted me from my sincerity.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا وَعَدْتُكَ بِهِ
مِنْ نَفْسِي ثُمَّ أَخْلَفْتُكَ فِيهِ

I seek Your forgiveness for anything that I have promised to do for Your sake and then broken my promise to You.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا دَعَانِي إِلَيْهِ الْهَــوَى
مِنْ قِبَلِ الرُّخَصِ مِمَّا اشْتَبَهَ عَلَيَّ
وَهُوَ عِنْدَكَ حَرَامٌ

I seek Your forgiveness for anything that my caprice (whims) has called me to do by taking dispensations in affairs which are dubious, which are in Your sight forbidden.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ يَا مَنْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
يَاعَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ مِنْ كُلِّ
سَيِّئَةٍ عَمَلْتُهَا فِي بَيَاضِ النَّهَارِ
وَسَوَادِ اللَّيْلِ فِى مَلَأٍ وَخَلَأٍ وَسِرٍّ
وَعَلَانِيَةٍ وَأَنْتَ نَاظِرٌ إِلَيَّ إِذِ ارْتَكَبْتُهَا
وَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا مِنَ الْعِصْيَانِ
فَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ يَاحَلِيمُ يَاكَرِيمُ يَارَحِيمُ

I seek Your forgiveness, there is no deity but You, O Knower of the seen and unseen, for every wrong or act of disobedience that I have committed in broad daylight or in the darkness of the night, in the company of people or whilst alone, in public or in private, in the knowledge that You were gazing upon me as I committed it. I repent to You, O Forbearing One, O Most Generous, O Most Merciful.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنَ النِّعَمِ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ
بِهَا عَلَيَّ فَتَقَوَّيْتُ بِهَا عَلَى مَعْصِيَتِكَ

I seek Your forgiveness for deriving strength from the blessings You have bestowed upon me and then using that strength to disobey You.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ الَّتِي لَا
يَعْرِفُهَا أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكَ وَلَا يَطَّلِعُ عَلَيْهَا
أَحَدٌ سِوَاكَ وَلَا يَسَعُهَا إِلَّا حِلْمُكَ
وَلَا يُنَجِّينِي مِنْهَا إِلَّا عَفْوُكَ

I seek Your forgiveness for sins which only You know about and only You can see, sins which only Your forbearance can encompass and from which only Your pardon can save me.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ يَمِينٍ سَلَفَتْ مِنِّي
فَحَنِثْتُ فِيهَا وَأَنَا عِنْدَكَ مُؤَاخَذٌ بِهَا

I seek Your forgiveness for every oath I have made and then broken, for which I will be taken to account.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ يَا مَنْ : لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ
سُبْحَـٰـنَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

I seek Your forgiveness, there is no deity but You, transcendent are You, truly I am amongst the wrongdoers.

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْغَمِّۚ
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُـۨجِى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِى
فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ

رَبِّ ﭐغْفِرْ وَﭐرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ﭐلرَّٰحِمِينَ

So We responded to him and delivered him from distress; thus do We deliver those who have faith.

And remember Zakariyyā, when he cried to his Lord: “O my Lord! Leave me not without offspring, for You are the best of bestowers.”

“My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy.”

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ فَرِيضَةٍ أَوْجَبْتَهَا
عَلَيَّ فِى آنَاءِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَطْرَافِ النَّهَارِ
فَتَرَكْتُهَا خَطَأ أَوْ عَمْدًا أَوْ نِسْيَانًا
أَوْ تَهَاوُنًا أَوْ جَهْلًا وَأَنَا مُعَاقَبٌ بِهَا

I seek Your forgiveness for every obligation which You have requested that I fulfil in the day or the night which I have subsequently neglected out of heedlessness, absentmindedness, forgetfulness or ignorance, and for which I will be punished.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ سُنَّةٍ مِنْ سُنَنِ
سَيِّدِ الْمُــرْسَلِينَ وَخَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ نَبِيِّكَ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
فَتَرَكْتُهَا غَفْلَةً أَوْسِهْوًا أَوْ نِسْيَانًا
أَوْ تَهَاوُنًا أَوْ جَهْلًا أَوْ قِلَّةَ مُبَالَاةٍ بِهَا

I seek Your forgiveness for every sunnah of the Master of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophets, Your Prophet our Master Muhammad ﷺ  which I have left out of heedlessness, absent-mindedness, forgetfulness, ignorance or not caring.

وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ يَا مَنْ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ وَأَنَّ
سَيِّدَنَا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ

سُبْحَانَكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ. لَكَ
الْمُــلْكُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَأَنْتَ حَسْبُنَا
وَنِعْمَ اْلوَكِيلُ نِعْمَ الْـمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ
النَّصِيرُ وَلَاحَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ
الْعَلِيِّ اْلعَظِيمِ

I seek Your forgiveness, there is no deity but You, alone without partner, Muhammad is Your slave and messenger. Transcendent are You, O Lord of the Worlds. To You belongs the dominion and all praise. You are sufficient for us, and You are the best disposer of our affairs. He is the best of those who protect and the best of those who assist. There is no strength nor might except in Allah, the Sublime, the Most Great.

يَا جَابِرَ كُلِّ كَسِيرٍ وَيَا مُؤْنِسَ
كُلِّ وَحِيدٍ وَيَا صَاحِبَ كُلِّ غَرِيبٍ
وَيَا مُيَسِّرَ كُلِّ عَسِيرٍ

يَا مَنْ لَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَى الْبَيَانِ
وَالتَّفْسِيرِ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى مَا تَشَاءُ قَدِيرٌ

O Allah, You are the Repairer of every breakage, the Companion of everyone who is alone, the One who brings ease to every difficulty, the One who is not in need of clarification or explanation. You are able to do whatever You will.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
بِعَدَدِ مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَبِعَدَدِ مَنْ لَمْ
يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon our Master Muhammad to the number of those who bestow prayers upon him, and to the number of those who do not.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى رُوحِ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِي الْأَرْوَاحِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon the spirit of our Master Muhammad.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى تُرْبَةِ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِى التُّرَبِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon the earth in which our Master Muhammad is buried.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى قَبْرِ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِى الْقُبُورِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon the grave in which our Master Muhammad lies.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى صُورَةِ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِى الصُّوَرِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon the physical form of our Master Muhammad.

اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى اسْمِ
سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِى الْأَسْمَاءِ

O Allah bestow prayers upon the name of our Master Muhammad.

لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۭ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ
عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ۝١٢٨ فَإِن
تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللّٰهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ
عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

There has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves, grievous to whom is your burden, concerned (is he) for you; for the believers (he is) full of compassion, merciful. If they turn away then say: Allah is sufficient for me; there is no god but He. On Him do I rely; He is the Lord of the Awesome Throne.

وَصَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى
آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ
الْعَالَمِينَ فِى كُلِّ لَحْظَةٍ أَبَدًا، عَدَدَ
خَلْقِهِ، وَرِضَاءَ نَفْسِهِ، وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ
وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ

May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon our Master Muhammad and upon his Family and Companions. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, in every instant forever, the number of His creation, to His satisfaction, the weight of His throne and the amount of ink of His words.

 Sayyidul Istighfar

اللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
خَلَقْتَنِي، وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ
وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ
شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ
عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ
لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنَتَ

'O Allah, You are my Lord! There is no god but You, It is You Who created me, and I am Your servant, I am faithful to my covenant and my promise to You to my best ability, I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done, I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins but You.'

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ
(70x)

My Lord, forgive me and have mercy upon me, and grant me repentance.
(To recite 70 times every night after Isyak)

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ
إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيم

My Lord, forgive me and turn to me, truly You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ اْلعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لَآ إِلَـٰهَ
إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, the Most Great, besides Who there is no god; the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.

اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبٍ
وَشَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ

O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha‘ban and enable us to reach Ramadan.
