AL-I’TIRAF

اِلٰهِيْ لَسْتُ لِلْفِرْدَوْسِ اَهْلًا

God, I certainly do not deserve to enter Paradise (on account of my sins)

وَلَا اَقْوٰى عَلٰى نَارِ الْجَحِـيْمِ

And I definitely do not possess the ability to endure the fires of Hell

فَهَبْ لِيْ تَوْبَةً وَّاغْـفِرْ ذُنُـوْبِي

So allow me to repent and forgive all my sins

فَاِنَّكَ غَافِرُ الذَّنْبِ الْعَظِيْمِ

For You are surely the Forgiver of all sins – however severe

ذُنُوْبِيْ مِثْلُ اَعْدَادِ الرِّمَالِ

My sins are like the amount of sands that line the shores of the sea

فَهَبْلِيْ تَـوْبَةً يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ

So grant me repentance, O Lord who possesses all Glory

وَعُـمْرِيْ نَاقِصٌ فِيْ كُلِّ يَـوْمٍ

My lifetime decreases every passing day

  وَذَنْبِيْ زَائِدٌ كَيْفَ احْتِمَالِ

While my sins keep increasing helplessly. How can I bear?

اِلٰهِيْ عَبْدُكَ الْعَاصِيْ اَتَاكَ

God, this sinful slave of Yours is turning to You

مُقِرًّا بِالذُّنُوْبِ وَقَدْ دَعَاكَ

I confess my sins and I seek Your forgiveness

فَاِنْ تَغْفِرْ فَاَنْتَ لِذَاكَ اَهْلٌ

If You forgive, You are the All-Forgiving

وَاِنْ تَطْرُدْ فَمَنْ نَرْجُوْا سِوَاكَ

But if You refuse, to whom else do I hope for other than You?

My Lord, if the greatness of my sins increase,
then I know that Your forgiveness is greater

If only the righteous called on You,
then who would the criminal go to?

I call on You my Lord,
as You commanded, with reverence

And if You turn my hands away,
then who else will have mercy?
