Hajah Sharifah Khadijah Bte Husien Alkaff @ “Khalah Jah”

Hajah Sharifah Khadijah Husien Alkaff or “Khalah Jah” as she is fondly known at REVAMP, is a Specialist Translator working in Brunei Darussalam, a post she has held since 2014, following an illustrious 33 years teaching-cum-counselling career in Singapore and at the Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College, Brunei where she taught English and Communications, while also holding the position of Senior Counselling Officer and Head of Media for the college.

She has also made contributions to the Da’wah Islamiah Centre (DIC), which has produced more than 20 of her booklets with topics such as As-Shukr, At-Taubah, Al-Kawf wa Ar-Raja’, As-Sabr, Why Does Allah Allow Bad Things To Happen, Tawakkul, An-Niyyah, and many more. As a matter of fact, one of her books, Be the Perfect Wife, became a Bestseller at the 2014 Brunei Book Fair.

Her other literary accomplishments include translating more than 23 Fatwa and other books and 2 books on Islamic Banking and Finance for the Islamic Bank of Brunei, amongst many other works too long to be listed here.

Apart from that, Khalah Jah is also a motivational speaker and has been invited to conduct sharing sessions and workshops in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Oman, Melbourne and Brunei, for audiences ranging from Governmental ministries, tertiary institutions, healthcare and childcare sectors, and da’wah organizations.

Academically, she attained her Degree in Psychology & Social Work from the University of Singapore in 1977, and subsequently Diploma in Education also from the National University of Singapore, RSA Diploma (UK) in Teaching of English for Graduate Teachers, and A’level Certificates with Merit in Shariah and Distinction in Usuluddin. She had also attended the Dowra in Tareem, Yemen in 2008.

A single parent of 3 sons, one of whom is mentally challenged and another who has cerebral palsy, this amazing lady was unsurprisingly awarded the Singapore National Exemplary Mother of the Year Award in 2009, presented by the President of Singapore to mothers who have successfully balanced career, family and community service. In October 2014, Khalah Jah received the Brunei National Guru Cemerlang [Excellent Teacher] Award from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Khalah Jah is particularly concerned about the youths of today and is interested to share her varied experiences in parenting and counselling with young mothers. Her special area of interest is in Islamic Parenting as well giving motivational talks from the Islamic perspective.
