Supplication before studying

By al-Imām Abd-Allāh b. Alawi b. Muhammad al-Haddad

،نَوَيْتُ التَّعَلُّمَ وَالتَّعْلِيمَ، وَالتَّذَكُّرَ وَالتَّذْكِيرَ
،وَالنَّفْعَ وَالْاِنْتِفَاعَ، وَالْإِفَادَةَ وَالْاِسْتِفَادَةَ
وَالْحَثَّ عَلَى التَّمَسُّكِ بِكِتَابِ اللّٰهِ وَسُنَّةِ
رَسُولِهِ، وَالدُّعَآءَ إِلَى الْهُدَى وَالدَّلَالَةَ
عَلَى الْخَيْرِ اِبْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللّٰهِ وَمَرْضَاتِهِ
وَقُرْبِهِ وَثَوَابِهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى

I hereby intend to learn and to teach. To be reminded and to remind. To be beneficial and to derive benefit. To seek knowledge and be of benefit. And to encourage holding fast to the Book of God and the Sunnah of His messenger. And to call unto guidance and to guide unto good, seeking the countenance of Allah, His pleasure, proximity and reward, transcendent and exalted is He!

﷽

سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا
إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ

Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us.
Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise. (2:32)

اَللّٰهُمَّ عَلِّمْنَا مَا يَنْفَعُنَا
وَانْفَعْنَا بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنَا وَزِدْنَا عِلْمًا

O Allah benefit us with what You taught us, and teach us what benefits us, and increase us in knowledge.

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا
وَرِزْقًا طَيِّـبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah we ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, and a good provision, and deeds that will be accepted.

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فَهْمَ النَّبِيِّينَ
وَحِفْظَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

O Allah we ask You for the understanding of the Prophets and the memory of the Messengers, and those nearest to You.

رَبِّ زِدْنيِ عِلْمًا وَرْزُقْنِي فَهْمًا

O Allah advance me in knowledge and true understanding.

،رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي، وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي
وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي، يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

My Lord! Expand my heart for me, and ease my task for me, and make loose the knot from my tongue, so that they understand my speech (20:25-29)
